I currently work for a PetSmart in Atlanta as a bather and I see some of the same stuff. During the week, we can put dogs in a new kennel because we usually don’t see more dogs than the 40+ kennels we have. However, on Saturdays? We don’t have time to breathe, much less time to clean out kennels between each dog. I understand the consequences the dog could face because of our “lack of care”, but if PetSmart is going to “enforce” such rules, the Salon Manager should not feel the need to book 4 dogs for one time and take appointments 15 minutes apart.

Kelsey– 8 to 10 dogs a day? I, by myself, can do upwards of 15 dogs a day (in a 6-8 hour shift).

Currently, I am looking at moving to Petco — I heard their bathers still earn commission!

Hey, I just read your blog and repsonses. I was a bather at Petsmart for about 7 months before I finally quit. My experience was just as aweful. I can second all of the care the dogs didnt recieve, and the cleanliness problems. My manager would push us to take more dogs than we could handle, claiming “It’s just a beagle” or “Some bathers have only 30 minutes per dog, so you can’t complain.” I would do 8 to 10 dogs a day more often than not, being forced to rush, raising my stress level and therefore the dogs I had to care for. Just as bad for me was the staff.

The people I worked with were horrible. Most of the girls seemed to really hate their job, and were so nasty with a “whatever” attitude. Everyone talked shit about everyone, everyone was two-faced to everyone. They were unenthusiastic and uncaring to customers: one woman even told me that she felt like she was dropping her dog off to a car wash during check in. They all used the excuse “Well, so many women in a small space- what do you expect?” Not an excuse, ever. It is NOT hard to be a decent person.

I can’t tell you how many people would go to Petco and breathe a sigh of relief when they were treated like human beings, and the dogs were treated with love and care.

My barely 14 year old daughter was in this class. She is a shy girl and was stunned and embarrassed. She didn’t know what to do or say. Realize that you are criticizing how a child reacts while being sexually abused. This was a touchy-feely authority figure who was twice her size. Eventually, she and others left the classroom one by one. There were only a couple of boys in the class and almost all the others were young freshmen girls. I wish she had told the principal right away, but unfortunately at that school kids are taught not to expect respect from teachers. “You don’t tell on your teachers, Mom.”

I love bananna cream pies.

Don’t judge yourself by the pies you make. It takes alot more than just making pies to be a good wife. Heck, I could be on of the best people on earth if all it took was making pies (I love to bake, just not clean up )
