Facebook has received a makeover and it’s beautiful. It is (almost) everything I would ever want in a Facebook mobile app.
The home screen shows all the top stories, including photo posts. In the top left, there is a “profile” button which allows you to quickly update your status. On the upper right, there is a “camera” button to upload a picture from your camera or photo library. Now, when uploading directly from the camera, your photo is actually saved in you camera roll! This was a huge flaw in the previous version that has been fixed. Also on the home screen, there are tabs for notifications and requests (finally you can accept friend requests). One of the most creative things about the home screen is a horizontal scrolling bar with tabs including: top stories, status updates, photos, posted items, live feed, events, groups, and various other apps you may use.
From your personal profile screen, you can access your wall, info, and photo albums. This is also the second screen you can update your status or upload photos from.
Photos in general got a pleasent update. When uploading a photo, you can now add captions and tags. To add a tag to a photo you’re uploading, just tap the place on the photo you want the tag to be. To view tags on an photo that’s already uploaded, hold you finger anywhere on the photo and the tags with pop up – tap with another finger (while still holding with the first finger) and you can add a tag to that spot. Very clever tagging in my opinion. The only thing lacking with photos is the ability to save any photo to your library. They need to implement the same idea that Apple uses with Mobile Safari.
The next piece that got a wonderful update is the inbox. I don’t even know what the deal was with the old inbox, but now it’s what you would expect… a complete inbox. You can read old, new, or sent messages and of course write and reply.
Good job, Facebook.
